About This Item

New York, New York: American Social Hygiene Association, 1947. Very good.. A revised guide for families, teens and young adults to "Betrothal" (i.e. engagement), emphasizing the importance of the practice for determining whether a couple has made a good marriage match. Describes it as a transition period necessary for emotional maturation. Discourages physical intimacy before marriage in concordance with the social mores of the time, citing consequences such as unexpected pregnancy or "disillusionment with marriage" (p. 13). Declares that "civilization is suffering enough already from lack of any feeling of responsibility" without premarital sex entering the mix. A publication very "of its time".

Single vol. (6.25" by 3.5"), pp. 16, stapled in original printed self wrps.
