A chronological survey of the Bible in postage stamps of the world between 1940-1971. The Bible has been studied and examined from every possible perspective. This book represents yet another dimension of reading the Bible. At first glance it seems unlikely that there could be any connection, however remote, between philately and the Bible. There is a traditional statement of advice, however, that urges study of the Bible, again and again, on the grounds that all things may be found in it. Obviously, then, even stamp collecting may be related to the Bible. In building a collection of stamps that have biblical content, and in reading the Bible through its appearance on postage stamps from all over the world, it cannot be expected that all areas of the Bible can be evenly covered. This book, therefore, was designed to follow biblical chronology, based on the available stamps, but to retain the freedom to elaborate on each theme in whichever direction seemed most interesting. Not unexpectedly, a large number of stamps in this collection come from Israel. One could anticipate that the Land of the Bible and the People of the Book would represent a biblical heritage on their stamps.
