London: The Holland Press, 1957 4to (25.5 cm), frontispiece, XLII, 268 pp, 13 plates. Publisher's cloth (binding slightly rubbed, few pencil marks inside). The second edition of the standard reference on the subject, the first edition of which was published in 1900. This bibliography of military books fully describing more than 950 works produced between the invention of printing and the year 1642. Apart from the major portion of works on Military Art, there are sections devoted to such allied subjects as topography, pyrotechnics, military law and the ordinances of chivalry, medicine, fortifications, fencing, exercises for musket and pike, cavalry and equitation, artillery, and castramentation. Includes an introduction by Sir Charles Oman.
