Previous owner's name heavily erased from front endpaper, with scrapes and abrasions to endpaper. Split to gutter at front hinge. ; Pyramid edition. First Pyramid edition printing, in same year as the first edition. 256 pages + colour frontispiece. Blue cloth boards with black lettering and illustration on spine and front board. Plane flying over pyramids and palm trees illustration on front board. Page dimensions: 183 x 123mm. Colour frontispiece illustration by Howard Leigh. Synopsis
W. E Johns was born in Bengeo, Hertfordshire in 1893. During the First World War he served in the Machine Gun Corps, and then in the Royal Flying Corps. In 1918 he was shot down and captured in France. His first book, The Camels are Coming , was published in 1932. From the Trade Paperback edition.
