About This Item
London: Constable, 1912. 1st edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Robinson, W. Heath. 4to, Full green cloth stamped in elaborate gilt with inset color cover plate and 16 tipped-in color plates including frontispiece with captioned tissue guards as well as 116 black and white drawings, many full page, all by Robinson himself. William Heath Robinson (1872-1944), brother of illustrators Charles and T.H. Robinson, was an English cartoonist and illustrator known primarily for his whimsical drawings of complex and implausible machines, in the same vein as the American cartoonist Rube Goldberg. This book comes early on in his career and consists of 16 stories he wrote for children and illustrated with his delightfully humorous illustrations. Each story has a full page title drawing and several smaller partial page drawings. A hint of wear to the tips, green cloth unevenly faded on back, endpapers lightly foxed, very good without dj or previous owner's marks.
