About the author

RONI ASKEY-DORAN has been writing since she was four years old. Barely out of training pants, she was penning adventurous bedtime stories to read to her teddy bear and, more than four decades later, with a lifetime of international travel and experiences to draw from, she continues to write evocative and moving tales based on her own journey. The eldest daughter of a military mechanical engineer and an innovative high school teacher based in Townsville, North Queensland, Australia, Roni was sexually abused by a trusted family member from a very young age and suffers from mental illness as a result. Her most recent titles reflect some of those experiences, her thoughts and feelings, and her triumphs and victories over seemingly insurmountable odds. Flying in the face of adversity, she continues to write entertaining fiction and insightful non-fiction on subjects about which she is passionate. In previous reincarnations, Roni has been a chef, a journalist, a magazine editor, an English teacher, a tour guide, a translator, and a fashion designer. Now a full-time beachbum, Roni currently resides in a bamboo shack on a remote beach in South America with four cats, two opossums, a non-venomous Granadilla snake, some tree frogs, a large green iguana and several species of tropical birds and butterflies. A large huntsman spider named Horacio resides in her bathroom. She's addicted to bananas, loves to cook fresh seafood with coconuts, is passionate about her tropical garden, and makes her own chocolate.
