London: Oxford, 1947. First Edition. Hardcover. Good Condition. Macdonald was a British politician, son of Prime Minister Ramsey Macdonald, he served in the war time coalition government and held a number of cabinet posts throughout the 1940s. This book was written during his time as High Commissioner for Canada and is regarded as one of the best books on North American ornithology from that period. This copy is from the library of Prime Minister Clement Attlee and has his gray Art Deco bookplate on the front pastedown. It also has a small handwritten card inside saying simply "With the compliments of the author" There are some patches on the boards where is seems the book may have once had a touch of damp.
