About This Item

Victor Gollancz, London, 1943. Reprint. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Good Condition/Poor. Illustrator: Photographic and Maps. preface by author. At the beginning and at the end of the book are maps of the Tunisian campaign, and between pages 64 and 65 there are 14 pages of black-and-white photographs. Green coloured cloth covered boards with gilt coloured titles to the back strip. Plaintext dustwrapper with purple and black coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. A contemporary account of the Tunisian campaign – of the building (in six months) of the great Allied army that fought this campaign, the mistakes made and lessons learned which helped the victories that followed. The book is showing age and use, and, of the fact that it was produced at war economy standards. Softening and a little fading of the back strip edges and bumping of the book corners. Some stains to the book panels and some sunning of the back strip. Browning, uniform, of the text block edges and lighter browning of the pages. Both the front and rear maps are fragile with creasing and tears to the edges. Previous owners name to the top right-hand corner of the free front end page with further owner's rubber stamp to the top edge of the front paste-down, and, to the lower edge of the title page. Original bookseller's sticker to the lower right-hand corner of the front paste-down. The dustwrapper is in appalling shape – please see photograph. Chipping, with loss, of the dustwrapper corners, and to the lower edge of the back strip. The top edge of the back strip is missing and there is a hole, three quarters of an inch, squarish in shape, three lunches from the lower edge. Heavy sunning of the back strip with lighter sunning of the panels. The panel show handling marks and stains. Rubbing along the creases of the dustwrapper. Second Impression Before Publication. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 159, [1] pages,. Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Illustrator: Photographic and Maps. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 500 grams.
