Description

Silver City, New Mexico: High Lonesome Books, 2002. 2002 Reprint of 1936 Edition . Trade Paperback. Fine. 6" x 9. Simon, Howard - Woodcuts. 300 Pages. Brand new condition this is a 2002 reprint of the 1936 Wilson-Erickson edition. Black Range Tales has become one of the classics of southwest Americana. In his inimitable style, "Uncle Jimmie" tells of prospecting, Indian fights, exploration, town life and all the characters from the early days of the Black Range, the Mogollons, and the rest of the Gila Country of southwest New Mexico. The result is alternately humorous, poignant, amazing or insightful; a singular look at the times. And most of all these tales are true, for by golly, James A. McKenna was there. In the introduction to this 2002 reprint the publisher says that much remains to be learned about Uncle Jimmie. The first 1936 Edition offered nothing about the man, or the writing of his book, beyond what the author himself had to say concerning his years in the Gila Region of southwest New Mexico. Just prior to publication of this edition the publisher found a couple of newspaper items that are included in this edition.
