About This Item

London: Harper Collins, 2003. 1st. h/b. Near fine, 1st edition, signed to title, unclipped d/j (vg some bumping to base), pages slightly yellowed.. 8vo (230 x 150 / 9"" x 6""). New Spanish thriller from the Gold Dagger winning author of A Small Death in Lisbon, introducing Detective Inspector Javier Falc—n. ItÕs Semana Santa in Seville, the Easter week of passion and processions. A leading restaurateur is found bound, gagged and dead in front of his TV. The self-inflicted wounds tell of the manÕs struggle to avoid the unendurable images heÕs been forced to watch. When confronted by this horrific scene the normally dispassionate homicide detective Javier Falc—n is inexplicably afraid. What could be so terrible? The investigation into the victimÕs turbulent life sends Falc—n trawling through his own past and the ferociously candid journals of his late father, a world-famous artist. Painful revelations churn up Falc—nÕs unreliable memory and more killings push him to the edge of terrifying truth. And he realizes that this is not just a hunt for the all-seeing killer who knows his victimsÕ secret lives but also the search for Falc—nÕs missing heart. From the Gold Dagger award-winning author of A Small Death in Lisbon, a novel that combines the tension of a psychological thriller with the emotional intensity of a literary tour de force.

Synopsis

Detective Inspector Javier Falcón is transfixed by the brutalized face of murder victim Raul Jiménez in his Seville apartment. On his shirtfront, littered like exotic petals, are the man's eyelids, and so the victim’s relentless horror becomes the beginning of Falcón's own. An old photograph at the murder scene prompts Falcón to read a set of journals left by his famous father, the artist Fransisco Falcón. He discovers that he'd never known the father he'd always loved, and as the case unfolds, Falcón's mind unravels as all the old certainties are undermined. More victims fall but neither the evidence nor the secrets of the victims' lives give Falcón the vital breakthrough he needs. The pieces of the puzzle finally fall together when Falcón finds the missing section of his father's journals--and becomes the killer's next intended victim. With The Blind Man of Seville , Robert Wilson's unparalleled combination of suspenseful storytelling and keen understanding of the ambiguities of the human soul confirm his place as one of the best mystery writers in the world today.
