Being the history of Gilles de Retz of Brittany, France, who was executed at Nantes in 1440 A.D. and who was the original of Blue-Beard in the Tales of Mother Goose.xv. 212 with frontispiece engraving of the Chateau of Nantes and fpour other illustrations, decorative headings. Dark green cloth with gilt signature om Gilles de Rais embossed on front cover, gilt titles to spine. A few marks and a little rubbing of boards but in excellent condition, rear of frontispiece foxed and passing through tissue guard to title page but faintly. Includes a handwritten copy of the "Evidence given at the trials of Gilles de Retz hitherto suppressed in the English translations." tipped in.. Hardcover. Fine /Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Book.
