About the author

Stanley Young held many positions with government wildlife management, including the U.S. Forest Service, Department of Agriculture, and the Biological Survey. He was named the first director of the Bird and Mammal laboratories in 1957. Young's chief interests were the predatory mammals of the West: the wolf, coyote, puma, and bobcat. His major publications included The Wolves of North America, with Edward Alphonso Goldman (1944), The Puma, Mysterious American Cat, with E. A. Goldman (1946), The Wolf in North American History (1946), and The Clever Coyote, with Hartley H. T. Jackson (1951)
