London: Sold by Otridge and Son et al., 1813. xxvi, 482pp. Printed in double columns. Handsomely bound in near contemporary richly gilt-tooled red straight-grain morocco, lettered in gilt to upper board 'Wm. Vavasour', A.E.G. Lightly rubbed and marked, spine sunned. Marbled endpapers, newspaper clipping pasted to FEP, extracts of devotional verse in manuscript to blank fly-leaves, later newspaper clippings relating to the Vavasour family to front blank fly- leaf, very occasional light spotting, terminal gathering and rear endpapers dampstained at head. Early inscription to front blank fly-leaf: 'For / Doctor Vavasour L.L. D. / from / The Author / through Doctor Hales', and annotation: 'Judge Baillie / the author'. The first edition of judge and legal writer John Bayley's (1763-1841) explication of the Anglican liturgy. This copy was once the property of Church of England clergyman, and sometime minister of Stow-on-the-Wold, Richard Frederick Vavasour (1786-1853) and evidently later passed to his son William Thomas Vavasour (1820-1863).
