This is an antique collection of poetry and prose works, "THE BOSTON BOOK - Being Specimens of Metropolitan Literature" edited by B.B. Thatcher. 1837; Light & Stearns; Boston. There is an illustrated title page with an engraving titled "Tri-Mountain" with a tissue guard. The book contains works from noted authors such as John Quincy Adams, Daniel Webster, Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr., John Greenleaf Whittier, Charles Sprague, Sarah Josepha Hale ("Mary Had a Little Lamb" creator), Edward Everett, Richard Henry Dana (author of "Two Years Before the Mast"), Jacob Abbott, Jared Sparks, S.G. Goodrich (a.k.a. "Peter Parley")...and many more. Per the Preface, the book is a "compilation of specimens...of the modern literature of the Metropolis of the North,"

Condition:
Clean front cover; there are a couple of very light stains on the back cover. The top edge of the spine is worn with cloth pieces missing; a small cloth piece is missing at the bottom half of the spine. Wear to the cover corners. The cloth is missing along most of the outer edge of the front cover. Bright gilt lettering on the spine. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Both covers are firmly attached. Consistent foxing to the pages throughout. The first front end paper has a name and a quote written in pen; the following end paper has a name written in ink. Light stain at the outer edge of the front end papers and title page; light stain at the outer edge of the rear end papers. Overall the book is in Good- condition.
