No. 428 of 500 copies. 56 pp.; 4to; gilt stamped black cloth back and patterned paper over boards, in matching slipcase; folding map; reproductions. Map with 2.5" split from bottom edges at fold, mended with archival tape; moderate tanning along hinges front and back, as well as gutter of title page. Bookplate of book collector Charles Walker Andrews, front pastedown. Externally a very fresh copy. Slipcase darkened at edges. James Boswell, from the first in his professional life as a barrister, had shown extraordinary interest in poor criminals who no one else would defend. Practicing in London, well past the success of his Life of Johnson, Boswell takes an interest in the well being of the unfortunate Mary Broad. .
