This 6-volume set was edited by George Birkbeck Hill, and published in 1891 on the centennial of the first publication of this work. With various frontis portraits of Dr. Johnson and James Boswell, and with fold-out facsimile letters and miscellaneous engraved illustrations. --- In blue cloth-covered hardcovers w/gilt-stamped spine titling; top edges gilt. Volumes lack dust jackets. --- With a tear to the cloth at the back joint of Volume I, some chafing and rounding of cover edges, inked gift inscription to first two pages of volume I and a little looseness to some signatures; else a clean, firm, unmarked set.; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 604,551,527,514,524,lxxi,323 pages .
