A new edition of this work, originally published in 1883. A large paper atlas, guide to the practical study of plants by Daniel McAlpine, with a foreword by S. M. Walters. This impressive work displays the nineteenth century ability to combine artistry with scientific accuracy. In two parts: the Cryptogams ranging from simple bacteria to molasses and ferns; and Phanerogams, covering all forms of flowering plants. Illustrated with a frontispiece and fifty-two coloured plates, twenty six to each part. Collated, complete. With unclipped dust wrapper. Daniel McAlpine was an Australian mycologist know for his contributions to research in plant pathology, becoming the British Empire's first professional plant pathologist. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally lovely with only minor dust soiling to the front board, minor shelf wear. The dust wrapper unclipped and excellent with minor shelf wear only, touch of sunning to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Faint spotting to the half title only, otherwise the pages are bright and clean. Illustrated with a frontispiece and fifty-two coloured plates. Collated, complete. Near Fine
