About This Item
Botanical specimen journal l. A loosely bound, half leather, string-tied portfolio containing Forty-Two folded loose signatures, each with a unique dried, and pressed botanical specimen mounted with full descriptions including scientific and common useage names, leaves, flowers, roots, family, genus, etc...on the opposite page. These are mostly small Spring & Summer plants with flowers; Indian Turnip, Lady Slipper, Iris, etc.... found in and around Laconia, NH during the Spring & early Summer of 1913. On most sheets, plants have stained the opposite page with an impression. Quite an exceptionally well-preserved and interesting hand-crafted book. This was assembled by the Valedictorian of St. Joseph School from the graduating class of: June 15, 1913. The student 'Alfred Paquette', has also been so kind as to leave his original hand-written 'Valedictory' speach in clear flowing script with pen. 5 single-sided pages. Quite interesting for a Botanical specimen journal over 100 years old with verifiable provenance.
