Scribner's, New York, 1972, first US edition, 240 p. ill. b/w photos, map front end papers, full rigged ship and sails identified on back end papers. The French Merchant Marine ships called bounty ships 1870-1920, moved cargoes to the overseas possessions. The French had low desertion rates and the ships more comfortable and safe. They also took easier passages for the ships. Many were Breton sailor, Henri Picard sailed on one of these ships.
