It records the experiences often firsthand of the pioneer women themselves and the part they played along with their husbands. Concentrates on depicting the labours, relationships, dangers and experiences in a primitive land where many changes and adaptations were required to establish a new life in an often lonely and isolated environment. Also covers immigration experiences as well as dealing with the locals both Pakeha and Maori, also the wreck of the Orpheus by a survivor. Contributors include Helen Wilson, Nina Barrer, Flora Spurdle, Mrs Lowry, Benton, Forsyth, Chaytor and others. CONDITION Green cloth has minor edge wear with fray bottom front cnr, 309 pages with 8 half tone plates. Nice crisp copy with light scattered foxing, front ep has been neatly removed and pasted to tighten front joint as a consequence. . First Edition. Hard Cover.
