About This Item

New York City, NY: Riverhead Books, 2007. First Edition. First Printing.. Hardcover. Fine/Fine Dust Jacket.. New York City, NY: Riverhead Books, 2007. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. First Edition/First Printing. 340 pages. The author's debut novel. Now considered a contemporary classic. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only. The "First-State" DJ has a long - and beautiful - blurb by Walter Mosley. Second-State DJ's have the blurb by Michiko Kakutani and do not have collectible value. The First Edition is now scarce. Presents Junot Diaz's "The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao". His long-gestated novel. The unexpected and sensational success of "Drown", his breakthrough collection of short stories, weighed heavily on Junot Diaz because it took him almost twelve years to write his first novel, an eternity in contemporary publishing. "A book that speaks in tongues. A masterpiece about our New World, its myths, curses, and bewitching women. Set in America's navel, New Jersey, and haunted by the vision of Trujillo's brutal reign over the Dominican Republic, 'The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao' is radiant with the hard lives of those who leave and also those who stay behind. A rousing hymn about the struggle to defy bone-cracking history with ordinary and extraordinary love" (Walter Mosley). "Funny, street-smart, and keenly observed. An extraordinarily vibrant book that is fueled by adrenaline-powered prose. Decisively establishes Diaz as one of contemporary fiction's most distinctive and irresistible voices" (The New York Times). An absolute "must-have" title for Junot Diaz collectors. This title is a contemporary classic. This is one of few copies of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing/First-State DJ still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: The "First-State" DJ has the blurb by Walter Mosley. Second-State DJ's have the blurb by Michiko Kakutani and do not have collectible value. Copies available online have serious flaws or are in multiple subsequent printings. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A scarce copy thus. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 2008 for "The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao". Selected by The New Yorker Magazine as one of the "Twenty Writers For The 21st Century". One of the most brilliant American writers of our time. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER JUNOT DIAZ TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). ISBN 1594489580.
