London: Simpkin, Marshall, Hamilton, Kent & Co Ltd., 1903. Undated but circa 1903. Hardback folio. 106pp. Chromolithograph and photogravure plates and illustrations, including two folding. Dark green cloth binding and 'metallic' endpapers to pastedowns. Front blind stamped with art nouveau style tree symbol. The book is divided into nine "fragments":- Concerning Bristol; A Ceramic Street Front; Oil Painting - Cartoons and Panels; Arts & Crafts; Paternoster Row; Present Day Illustrations; Machinery; The Linotype Machine and Type Making; Artisanship. Colour frontispiece of Edward Everard's art nouveau printing works decorated in ceramic tiles by Walter Yoxall (this remarkable facade has been preserved and can still be seen on Broad Street, Bristol). Edward Everard was immensely successful and saw William Morris, especially with the Kelmscott Press, as an ideal of craftmanship. This book is a personal testament to Everard's success and ideals. Book in good condition. A little edge wear to boards and wear to extremities of spine. two fold-out colour plates, the first of which has separated at one vertical fold. Generally clean and bright internally.
