A beautifully illustrated six volume encyclopaedia by the chemist William Nicholson, in lovely diced calf bindings. A complete six volume set of this enormously informative work.Illustrated with 155 plates in total; twenty-seven to volume I; thirty-three to volume II; twenty-four to volume III; twenty-four to volume IV; twenty-six to volume V, and twenty-one to volume VI. Collated, complete. This richly illustrated alphabetically arranged encyclopaedia includes entries on subjects surrounding maths, horology, architecture, heraldry, astronomy, microscopes, entomology, and other diverse topics such as lifeboats and Rowntree's Beer Engine. In full diced calf bindings, with gilt detailing to back strip. Minor rubbing to joints, otherwise externally lovely. Front hinges of volume II and IV strained, but firmly held. Internally, firmly bound. Foxing to plates of volumes II, III, IV, and VI, with foxing most significant to volume V. Offsetting to pages facing plates. Very Good
