About the author

Ian Scott's long and distinguished career was spent mainly in the Indian Civil Service but also as a Foreign Office official and finally as a British ambassador in Africa and the Middle East. He is the author of Tumbled House on his time in the Congo.
Denis Judd is Principal Lecturer in the history of the British Imperial Commonwealth and South Asia. He is the author of Empire: The British Imperial Experience from 1765 to the Present
