London: William Heinemann Ltd., 1931 Printed by the Riverside Press Limited, Edinburgh. Eighth edition of Heinemann's 1916 publication. Hard cover, royal 8vo (5 1/2 x 9 1/4 inches), in half brown cloth with decorative marbled paper to boards and applied cream label printed in black to the spine. Condition Very Good, with little exterior wear except small rubbing at corners and foxing to fore-edge and bottom of text block only, not affecting interior pages, which remain bright and clean. Edges uncut. This has been described as "an elaborate and epic retelling of the Gospel story," stylishly and satirically written. Irish author George Moore ( 1852-1933) was influenced by the naturalism of the French writers he met during residence in Paris while training as an artist in the 1880's, and would later go on to be instrumental in the foundation of Dublin's Abbey Theatre. .
