About This Item

New York: Random House, 1938. Edwin Corle (1906-1956) is noted for his strong, sympathetic writings set in California and the Southwest. Native Americans, such as in his masterwork "Fig Tree John," are often main characters. He has been compared to John Steinbeck. This is a Near Fine copy of the First Edition (stated First Printing) of a picaresque novel set in a tourist town. Reddish-brown cloth binding with a paper label on the spine. Clean text; 279 pages, with the top-edge stained black. The front cover has 2 very minot scuff marks, else a Fine copy. This copy has been stamped on the front cover in gilt with a (presumed) previous-owner name. The dustjacket is Very Good. Price-clipped, it shows some edgewear, with a diagonal chip at the head of the spine (which has darkened), a small chip on the rear cover, and two other closed tears. Still, the cover remains attractive, with the colors on the front cover still quite bright. In an archival plastic protector. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First Edition.. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Very Good.
