About This Item
Barbados: Black Bird Studios. Very Good in Fair dust jacket. 1999. First Edition. Hardcover. 9768077646 . "My aim in this book is to share these old photographs and a piece of our past with other Barbadians and visitors to the island. In doing so, a small and simple piece of social history has emerged. My own collection of photographs, made during my employment over many years in the rare stamp department of the philatelist, Stanley Gibbons, in London, together with pictures from the private collections of Dr. Karl Watson, Mr. Bill Ferguson and Mr. Peter Allard, form the nucleus of this book. The photos range from the earliest known photos on the island, from 1860 up to roughly, the end of the First World War, and in a few cases a little later, to complete the story. Each page stands on its own with a description of the picture, however, read in its entirety, the book provides a brief history of the island." - Author's Note. xiv,162 pages. Bibliography. Maps. Sepia-tone half-page reproductions of wonderful archival photos atop each page. Book clean, tight and unmarked with very light wear to maroon faux-leather boards lettered in gilt. Above-average wear to dust jacket now preserved in archival-grade Brodart. A quality copy of this marvelous history.; 4to .
