Three issues have minor edge wear, and are in very good condition. The other three have mild to moderate chipping to edges and some separation along previous fold; these three are in good condition. Collated; all pages present. The issues included in this collection are June 26, September 25, October 9, October 30, November 27, and December 4, 1873. The Southern Californian was a weekly newspaper published in Bakersfield, Kern County, California, approximately from the 1850s to the mid-1870s. In 1876 it merged with the Kern County Weekly Courier to form the Kern County Californian, which would become the current Bakersfield Californian daily newspaper. Each issue contains seven columns of local news, opinions, jokes, announcements, and the like; the rest is devoted to advertisements. Rare; no issues in OCLC and only one issue - February 19, 1874 - found in the American Antiquarian Society catalog. A complete list of issues can be provided upon request.
