Los Altos, California: The Talisman Press, 1960. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. Includes the rare contemporary account by George Beers, and numerous photographs and excerpts from contemporary newspapers. Vasquez (1835-75) was an infamous stagecoach robber and horse thief who headed a gang of outlaws that operated in his native Monterey County and elsewhere in California. He was captured near Los Angeles in 1874, and later executed for murder. Octavo. Original buff paper-covered boards over a red cloth spine, with a vignette of Vasquez on the front and gilt titles along the spine. A fine copy in a fine dust jacket.
