Signed by the author along with the quote "Abide with us, for it is toward evening". Dust jacket shows chipping and tears along the edges, with the large chip at the top of the spine area. Green cloth boards underneath or clean in color is good. The internal binding is good, no hinge issues. The only other handwriting found in the book is on the front end page, where there is very faint remnant of a price once penciled in the corner. No other handwriting, no underlining, no bookplates, no library markings, no remainder marks. The title page shows a date of 1959 but the copyright page shows a date of 1960 along with the statement this is a first edition.
