About This Item
Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1929 Later printing; previous copyrights 1921, 1922. Riverside Library edition. Illustrated with black-and-white photographs. Politically-incorrect firsthand account of Osa and Martin Johnson's South Seas encounters with noble savages, monkey people, painted savages, head-hunters, and cannibals. Art-deco style red-on-black dust jacket by J. Perkins features stylized drawing of native head in profile. Light-to-moderate rubbing to cover extremities. Prior owner inscription on front endpaper. Small red inkspot to front andpaper near fore edge has blotted from red dust jacket flap. Otherwise clean and tight. Light water spotting to front and rear panels of dust jacket, but no other indication of water damage; no odor. Light-to-moderate edgewear to jacket extremities. Red coloring gone from spine due to sunning. Irregular 2" x 1/2" scar of unknown origin to center of front panel alongside illustration, showing pale spot. Few careless pressure marks to front panel illustration, noticeable when viewed at an angle. Dust jacket now protected in mylar.
