Ruth Behar naci en La Habana, Cuba, creci en Nueva York y tambin ha vivido en Espaa y Mxico. Adems de escribir para lectores jvenes, su trabajo incluye poesa, memorias y los aclamados libros de viaje An Island Called Home y Traveling Heavy, que exploran sus viajes de regreso a Cuba y la bsqueda de su hogar. Fue la primera latina en ganar una beca MacArthur "Genius". Obtuvo una beca John Simon Guggenheim y fue nombrada "Gran Inmigrante" por la Carnegie Corporation. Actualmente es profesora de antropologa en la Universidad de Michigan y vive en Ann Arbor, Michigan.

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

Ruth Behar was born in Havana, Cuba, grew up in New York, and has also lived in Spain and Mexico. In addition to writing for young people, her work includes poetry, memoir, and several novels that explore her return to Cuba and her search for home. She was the first Latina to win a MacArthur "Genius" Grant, and other honors include a John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship, and being named a "Great Immigrant" by the Carnegie Corporation. She is an anthropology professor at the University of Michigan and lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
