Contemporary green calf, tooled in gilt and blind, marbled edges. Lightly rubbed, slight loss to head of sunned spine. Marbled endpapers, pencilled ownership inscription to title of first mentioned work of the author's daughter, Marie Eveleen Meredith (1871-1933). The pirated first American edition of two short stories by George Meredith (1828- 1909), initially published in the New Quarterly Magazine in the late 1870s, but not in book form in Britain until 1894. .
