Inscribed on verso of frontispiece by the publisher: "To John Irwin Esq / of St. Andrews / Que / Feb. 1st / William F. Drysdale." Over 50 b&w illustrations - all present. Contents: Introduction; Mythology and Folklore; Mammoth Beavers; The European Beaver; The More Important American Rodents; Life History of the Canadian Beaver; Geographical Distribution; Engineering Accomplish-ments; Economic Considerations; Chemico-Medical Properties; Importance in Trade and Commerce; Uses of the Beaver in Manufactures; Hunting the Beaver; Experiments in Domestication; Anatomy - Osteology - Taxidermy; The Beaver in Heraldry; Appendices: Photo-copies from Original Documents - 1721-1726; Samuel Hearne's Account of the Beaver; Plaptypsyllus Castoris. Bookplate on front pastedown, a few pages have rough edges due to opening, a few page edge tears archivally taped, light browning to edges of text block, wear/wrinkling at top/bottom of spine, light edge and corner wear, wrinkling to cloth on spine, wrinkling/bubbling to cloth on lower half of front board, two very small dents on bottom edge of rear board, some light staining and colour variation on cloth boards, some darkening to spine colour.. Inscribed by Publisher.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good.
