Description

New York: Workman Publishing Co, 1975. First Edition. Stiff Illustrated Wrappers. Good. B. Kliban. Oblong 12mo. Unpaginated. Illustrated throughout with Kliban's comics in black-and-white. Bound in stiff glossy wraps. Dampstains to fore-edge of covers and text block. Gift inscription on front free endpaper from Seattle cartoonist Ray Collins and his then-significant other: "To read on the plane to Ceylon / Ray & Juanita." In addition, Northwest artist Guy Anderson signed his name to the inside front cover. Collins got his professional start illustrating the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. He then began contributing to Helix, Seattle's underground newspaper, including covers, and comic strips featuring characters Cecil C. Addle and Dipstick. Later his daily comic strip appeared in the Op Ed pages of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer under the title The Adventures of Cecil C. Addle and Dipstick. The connection between Collins' lighthearted humor and Guy Anderson's ineffable Northwest mysticism connotes the breadth of the region's artistic temperaments.
