Describes 741 of the most important botanical books published before 1800. "Each entry consists of a detailed bibliographic description, collation, physical description, and annotation, with a list of references. Each volume contains its own detailed index; in addition v. 2, pt. 2, has an index to scientific names". Volume I covers 1150-1700, volume II 1701-1800. The preliminary material includes essays by various authors on early botany, medical aspects of early botanical books, the dawn of modern husbandry, the illustration of early botanical works, eighteenth-century botanical prints in color, eighteenth-century gardening books and eighteenth-century botanical gardens and botanical literature.*** Sheehy EC71.
