New York: The Century Company. Very Good with no dust jacket. c.1913. Hardcover. Ex-library copy. Six months of the The Century Magazine bound together without the monthly covers. Each issue of The Century Magazine includes non-fiction articles and fictional stories, often by well-known authors, as well as dozens of illustrations, photos, poems, and letters. This volume includes an article about the impeachment of Andrew Johnson, one entitled 'How Cervantes Looked' (with illustration), several articles about Abraham Lincoln, articles or stories by Booker T. Washington ('Is the Negro Having a Fair Chance?'), G. K. Chesterton ('On Divorce in War and Wedlock'), Bret Harte ('A Monte Flat Pastoral', with illustration by N. C. Wyeth), and with color reproduction of painting by Arthur Rackham and wood engravings of art masterpieces by Jean François Millet. These, and many other articles, poems and illustrations, make this a fascinating glimpse at reading matter for educated people in the early 20th century.
