Guelph, Ontario: Self-published, 1976. 516 pp, 9 1/4" H. Pictorial endpapers, b&w photographs. "Few people appreciate the significant contribution made by veterinarians to the economic importance of the livestock industry, the quality of small animals and the control of diseases affecting public health throughout Canada. The increasing value of such work is largely due to the efforts of the profession itself, particularly in the province of Ontario. Human survival still depends on animals and animal products. To that close relationship the veterinarian brings the benefits of modern science; his professional skill and integrity today defend the economic and physical well-being of all citizens. In a fast-flowing but detailed narrative, the authors review the early years of the O.V.A., its emphasis on high ethical and scientific standards and a long struggle for adequate statutory recognition. These advances have been closely linked to the remarkable role of the Ontario Veterinary College throughout the century. The book also traces the rise of the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association to its position of national influence. In Canada, the profession is unique in that close collaboration with all levels of government is constantly required. The control and suppression of rabies is only one example - perhaps the best know to the public." Dust jacket has tiny tear/wrinkling at top of front hinge - archivally taped, minor soiling.. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Very Good.
