Minor signs of wear on the dust jacket that is now protected with a clearcover.; 'The Ceramics of China', an illustrated album in two volumes made up by photographs, diagrams and explanatory text, deals with the development of the art of ceramics in China and contains nearly 400 pictures of priceless ancient ceramics selected from among both time-honoured collections and archaeological discoveries, as well as those of modern ceramics made by famous producers. Each caption gives the name of object, the place of excavation or the name of the collector. Short explanations are given for each category of ceramics according to its scientific, technical and artistic merit in different periods, with technical data included. All the 171 photographs in volume one are in colour and their sources include the country's major museums of history, research institutes and collectors. About fifteen per cent of the photographs are published for the first time, those previously published in black and white appear in colour here for the first time. This first volume is devoted to the pottery of 7,000 years ago as well as painted pottery, glazed pottery, celadon, three coloured Tang ware and porcelain of the Song dynasty..
