In Charley's case it is just this handicap which fills him with a fierce determination to prove himself a man, not a child dependent on the condescending benevolence of his white neighbors. A few faint scuffs to the same page, nowhere near the inscription. Jackson was an African-American novelist form Columbus, Ohio. He mostly wrote young adult novels touching on racial themes.
