The plight of an eighteen-year-old Negro, the only Negro boy in a snug Ohio town, could not conceivably be easy. In Charley's case it is just this handicap which fills him with a fierce determination to prove himself a man, not a child dependent on the condescending benevolence of his white neighbors. Charley's moral odyssey takes him to Atlantic City where he is confronted with a barrage of prejudice and disadvantage. 1971. A8.

A few faint scuffs to the same page, nowhere near the inscription. Jackson was an African-American novelist form Columbus, Ohio. He mostly wrote young adult novels touching on racial themes.
