Lambert, talented British provincial player 1870-early 1900s, signed and dated Nov. 30th 1868; a copy which passed through two important English chess libraries - inscribed on the ffep "From the Whitman Chess Library" and "J W Rimington Wilson Chess Library". A compilation of the games of one of the strongest players of the 17th century, who died at the young age of 34. Rare; very few copies have appeared at auction in the last 20 years. First published in English in 1656 as "The Royall Game of Chesse-play..." by Giochino Greco (1600- c.1634), also known as Il Calabrese. Lambert has six games recorded on chessgames.com from the Vizanagaram Tournement in London in 1883 and is profiled in British Chess Magazine Vol 22, p. 99-100. J. W. Players were responsible for playing from 9-12 am, 2-5 pm, and 7-10 pm each day, but may have been able to arrange their own time of play, and sequence of opponents. (Bibliotheca van der Linde-Niemeijeriana: 5394) First edition.The chess club in Hannover, Germany celebrated its fifty year anniversary by organizing a small, international chess master tournament in 1926. Eight players were invited to participate, including two very strong masters: Aron Nimzowitsch from Denmark, and Akiba Rubinstein from Poland. They met with six German chess masters that included Jacques Mieses, Friedrich Sämisch, Oscar Antze, Hans Duhm, Hermann Von Gottschall, and Walther Von Holzhausen. Games were played from August 9th to the 18th. Nimzowitsch won with a near perfect score of 6½ of 7, edging out Rubinstein by half a point. The prizes were awarded to the players at the Hotel Luisenhof. Edited by Bernhard Kagan.(Bibliotheca Van der Linde-Niemeijeriana:5392) First edition.The tournament consisted of ten contestants. Efim Bogoljubov scored first a full point ahead of Akiba Rubinstein whom scored 6 points. and Rudolf Spielmann, Carl Ahues and Ernst Grunfeld tied for third each with a score of 5. The other contestants were Edgard Colle (4), Paul Johner, Paul M List and Friedrich Samisch (3 1/2), and Walther Von Holzhausen (2 1/2). This was Rubinstein's last tournament as a Berliner. He soon took up residence in Antwerp.Condition:Corners bumped and rubbed, some internal notations, spine heal rubbed through else a very good copy issued without jacket.

First day cover envelop (4 1/2" x 6 1/4") Signed by Nona Gaprindashvili on front cover.Born in Zugdidi, Georgia, Nona Gaprindashvili began playing chess at the age of five. Seven years later, she moved to Tblisi, where she trained with Georgian grandmasters. Her shrewd, aggressive play won her great success early in her career. In 1961, she won the Women's Candidates Tournament. The following year, she challenged Elizaveta Bykova in the Women's World Championship and won. Her victory in this tournament brought her fame and made her a symbol of regional pride in Georgia. Nona Gaprindashvili went on to win the Women's World Championship four more times. Three of these matches were against Alla Kushnir, while the last was against Nana Alexandria, a fellow Georgian. In 1978, Nona lost her title to another Georgian player, Maya Chiburdanidze.Gaprindashvili is a pioneer in women's chess—in 1978 she was the first woman to be awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE.
