Includes List of the Students of the Chinese Education Mission and their subsequent occupations in China. Yellow cloth with black lettering to spine & brown illustration on front cover. Light wear to extremities; else near fine. Beginning in 1872, China began sending young boys to study abroad, first to America and later on to Europe and Japan. The first group of young Chinese boys landed in San Francisco, to be followed by three additional groups until by 1874 there were one hundred and twenty such students living and studying in the schools of a score of small towns scattered throughout the Connecticut Valley. These are the stories of those boys who returned to China as young, educated men and the roles they played in the emergence of the China of today.
