About This Item

London: Smith, Elder & Co, 1905. Biographical. hardback. Very good, vol IX in Biographical edition of Thackeray's works; red boards a little scuffed and bumped; gilt spine titling and cover decoration fair; black pastedowns (a little tearing in front gutter); text block firm, pages clean and unmarked.. 8vo: crown (200 x 140 / 8"" x 5_""). Michael Angelo Titmarsh was one of Thackeray's several pseudonyms early on in his career. He was a trenchant critic and satirist of the absurdities and hypocrisies of high society. The 5 Christmas books were combined and not revealed to be Thackeray's until after his death in 1863.
