About This Item

London: Faber & Faber 1944. 8vo. First Edition. 92 pp. Publisher's blue cloth in printed dust jacket. Antony Brown's copy with his name in ink on ffep. dated 1944, with a letter to him from the author Louis MacNeice dated 7th April 1944. The two men were both published in John Lehmann's 'Penguin's New Writing 1944', and in the letter MacNeice spars with Brown's critical essay on the play, tackling point by point; its first performance was given by the BBC on the 12th October, 1942, in the Home Service. The letter is a folded sheet of paper 25cm x 20cm with typewritten message filling one and a half sides, signed 'Louis' in ink at the end; one or two small tears on edges not affecting text. Cloth and dustjacket both discoloured and faded at spine -- boards a little water-creased, as are the pages within, but internally clean. . Very Good. Cloth. First Edition. 1944.
