About This Item

1743 PURITAN Colonial Philadelphia Dyer Bible Sermons Rev War Soldier PROVENANCE

William Dyer, a nonconformist English preacher born in 1632, was a Puritan Calvinist who served in Chesham and Buckinghamshire. However, following the Great Ejection causing countless Puritan preachers to lose their position, Dyer, among the many, began writing liturgical texts instead of sermons. His most famous and popular work was 'Christ's Famous Titles', which, curiously, is simply a collection of his sermons on the names of Jesus (i.e. Prince of Peace, Wonderful Counselor, King of Kings, etc.).

This fine 1743 Philadelphia edition contains Dyer's other works including 'A Cabinet of Jewels' and 'Christ's Voice to London' each having their own title pages.
