About This Item
Little, Brown and Company, 1974. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Good. Demi Hitz. Introduced and translated by Francis Ross Carpenter. Hardcover book with gilt boards matching dust jacket design has no apparent defects or wear though the binding is not as tight as new (opens readily at pastedowns). Immaculate illustrated interior, 177 pages. The dust jacket has nice faces but the spine is sunned, chipped at the spine tips and one corner, and frayed on top and bottom edges with several small tears also beginning to chip. Stated first edition followed by "T 08/74" (see photos). Illustrated with pen and ink sketches by Demi Hitz along with reproductions of early Chinese paintings of tea culture and manufacture. "The first complete translation of the Ch'a ching to appear in the West since it was written over 1000 years ago. Author describes how to manufacture tea, how to lay out the equipage, and how to brew it properly." Scarce collectible.
An account, written in the eighth century BCE, of the growing, manufacture, brewing and enjoying of tea. The first book written on the subject, now for the first time in English. Mr. Carpenter's introduction tells the history of the use of tea
