The scarce first limited edition of this work, limited to two-hundred and eighty-five copies, of which this is numbered thirty-eight, printed on vellum paper from the Lafuma paper mills.Original wraps are bound in.In the original French.'Clochemerle' is an important satirical novel, centering on personal rivalries and local politics in a fictional village. The main dispute of the novel is about the construction of a vespasienne (public urinals) near the village church.After publication this work gained much public acclaim and won the Prix Courteline in 1934.By Gabriel Chevallier, best known for this work.
