About the author

John Ford was educated at Manchester Grammar School and Balliol College, Oxford where he obtained a BA in Modern History. He is now a freelance writer and editor and was for many years a Director of Arthur Ackermann & Son of Bond Street, the leading specialist in sporting art. He has written a number of books on sporting and social history and has organised many exhibitions. He wrote the script of Thames Television series 'This Sporting Land' and a number of artists' biographies for the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography.
