Outstanding collection, assembled at the time, of this series of engraved plates of Spanish costumes, delicately hand-colored and originally published in installments. The fifteen installments of eight plates, totaling the collection, had become almost impossible to gather, so shortly after their release, volumes of one hundred and twelve plates like this one were created from the remaining prints. The charming illustrations depict, among other characters, an oil seller, a water seller, a hunter, a gardener, a winemaker, gypsies, bullfighters, a pork butcher, etc. Enhanced with often humorous captions, these color plates constitute a finely drawn panorama of the society that Goya was satirizing at the same time in his "Caprichos". The general title, which is usually missing in these collections, has been replaced, as often, by the title of one of the installments (here, the fourth). Very beautiful and pristine copy.
